Liberty Haze, Barney’s Farm won the 2011 Cannabis Cup with this amazing strain. Barney’s hasn’t released their full description on this strain yet so information is a bit scarce, but that’s won’t stop us from telling you more about this wonderful addition to the world of ganja.

Liberty Haze

To get to know Liberty Haze you must first get to know her parents and the award winning genetics that she comes from. She is a cross between the legendary G13 and equally famousChemDawg 91. The origin of G-13 is likely one of the most perplexing of any strain, making it the subject of many urban legends. According to some accounts, in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s the CIA, FBI, and other government agencies collected the best strains from around the world. At a top-secret installation at the University of Mississippi, they bred many new super hybrids. Allegedly, a single cutting of this plant was liberated by an unnamed technician and bred for the masses. The cut, G-13, was said to be the 13th, and one of the most potent, in a series of pure Afghani strains.

G13 Strain

The facts, however, provide no substantiating evidence. Although cannabis researchers at the University of Mississippi did assemble a world-class cannabis collection during the late 1960s and early 1970s, there is no evidence that these researchers were ever involved in breeding high quality marijuana. Especially considering the grade of government marijuana that we have seen from patients like Irvin Rosenfeld. Rosenfeld is one of only four patients in the US who receive weed from the federal government.

One thing you can take to the bank about this super secret strain is the fact that its potent genetics is among the most prized in the world. It is widely believed among breeders that it does have the Afghani traits that the legend speaks of. That and the narcotic high speaks for itself. Its a great strain for the treatment of stress, anxiety, pain, insomnia, and lack of appetite. This may just be another reason why its so sought after.

Chemdawg 91Chemdawg ’91 is deeply embedded in cannabis genetics as well. While there are as many rumors there is a story of the legendary grower, Chemdawg, selling an ounce to a couple guys (joebrand and pbud) at a Grateful Dead show and the 13 seeds in that bag spawned some of the most popular strains in the world today. These strains include OG Kush, (the original cut) came from an s1 from in a bag of ’91 Chemdawg in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996. Sour Diesel aka ECSD came from an accidental cross of  ’91 Chemdawg. You can also add Original Diesel (aka Diesel #1), Super Snowdawg, Giesel, Chemdawg D, and many others to that list.

With most cannabis strains the parents are a major indication of what your going to get when you put genetics to the test and Liberty Haze is no exception. Derry, the owner of barney’s, has definitely brought the best genetics to the table and came out on top in 2011. Liberty Haze is another legend in the making and winning the Cannabis Cup is only the beginning of her story. She’s got it all… the looks, the taste, the yield and now she’s got the Cup.  You can expect to see this strain sweep across the world like so many other great strains that have won this cup so don’t get left behind. See what is like to to grow this future legend yourself. The only question left is, what are you going to make of it?
